Turning Red

If you know me at all (and give a single shit,) you know I really only invest in commenting on movies when I feel like something isn’t being said. That is absolutely not the case, in this instance - instead, I’d like to pull the yokel card, and simply express how much reassurance (maybe even some real joy???) it brings me to know that children are growing up with movies like this.

If I were a parent in 2022 - which is much less harder to imagine than anyone actually in my life would believe, I think - I have no doubt I would be in exponentially more duress about the immediate future than I already am, and a peak sincerity, fresh-ish perspective Pixar landmark like Turning Red would be a godsend.

Feel free to shame/decimate me about this, but I’ve somehow managed to develop a habit of seeking The New Yorker’s commentary exclusively whenever I do actually feel compelled to read about a film before watching it. I know precisely why, but it’s quite hard to describe - I’d make more effort, but no longer harbor any remaining delusions about the quantifiable worth of my perspective on any culture, whatsoever. Suffice it to say, the immense New York Media Neoliberal cynicism
