Slow Boring Researcher Application

Matt,

Hello! I’m David Blue - a self-described Software Historian, former auto journalist, and (for money) private healthcare practice Office Admin. I’ve been a casual Slow Boring reader since November of last year and (frankly) think I would be a quite-optimal candidate for the sort of help it sounds like you’re looking for.

Though my academic credentials amount to a high school diploma and 80% of an associate’s degree in Journalism from my local community college, I do have extensive experience in all manner of grunt work involved in modern digital publishing and research, largely thanks to my attempt to launch an independent online music magazine from 2015-2018. (You might find its About page interesting, editorially.) I can edit/manipulate audio, video, and text, and am very familiar with the nuances of delivering said media via the channels you would expect (read: I am a CMS nerd.)

I know how to use a search engine properly and cite formally up to the level of academic publishing. This pseudo-academic essay questioning Spotify as a discoverability tool is the most recent example of this work I have on offer, though it’s a bit dry. If you find yourself interested in something autobiographical, “Why I Write About Technology” is telling, if abstract.

My availability at the moment is very open-ended, though I would prefer a part-time arrangement. I am more than open to further discussion on that subject, if you’re interested.

Thank you for your consideration!
