Big Shout Out

— Jack Underwood

to the house-animals
and the animals of the ocean
with its vast pressures surrounding
reassuringly; to the sky looking
great in its harness, and relief
my favourite emotion;
to the drop-in centre, all-night vigil
at the cornershop; to figure skaters
rehearsing afterhours, running
their routines in headphones
on a night-bus; to the requiem,
days and horizons on the slide,
and the cold, still circuit-boards
in every dead satellite;
to remembering names correctly;
to the new coats of paint
on all the gates of heaven.
