‘Ndakusuwa’ by Blaize Kaye

It’s gray and rainy here in Baltimore, and I’m secretly crying at my desk because this short story by Blaize Kay is flawlessly heartbreaking. In a good way. A really good way.

‘Ndakusuwa’ is barely 800 words in length, and yet with a few gestures and sign posts, it’s able to capture the enormities of parenthood, loss, wonder, space, and love—the deepest, most aching kind of love.

There’s not much else to say, really, as the story leaves you filled with something far greater than words.
