‘We Cosmology’ by Xandria Phillips

— Andrew Sargus Klein

There’s a certain, inexorable pull of declaration in this poem by Xandria Phillips. ‘We Cosmology’ is a history, an arc. The “we” throughout the poem is centered, uplifted, and emphasized fully by the surrounding ungrammar. The narrative runs beside an annihilating sense of dread but nonetheless is filled with a haunting beauty. It is history and myth, blurred with blood. This is an act of witness that isn’t unchained to the present. Here it’s a continuation, a remembrance; it is the weight of a collective self.
